Rafiq Ahmad, 55, a resident of the Manjhanpur town, some 200 km from Lucknow, has written a letter to District Magistrate Lokesh Singh urging him to get his 25-year-old son Faizi, who has “become a serious threat for the society”, killed by the police in a shoot out, officials said Saturday.

In his letter, Ahmad, who is a ‘Lekhpal’ (a junior revenue official), has stated: “My youngest son Faizi is involved in criminal activities. He is involved in illegal supply of firearms and has links with anti-social groups. He is not only a threat for the family, but also for the society.”

“Isliye uska encounter kara diya jaye (Therefore, get him killed in an encounter),” Ahmad wrote.

Singh has asked a sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) to probe the matter.

“We have initiated an enquiry into the case. Necessary action would be taken only after completion of the enquiry,” SDM J.S. Tyagi, who is heading the probe, told IANS over telephone from Kaushambhi.

“Details of the case would be shared with the media only after the completion of the enquiry,” he added.

Ahmad has three sons, including Faizi, and two daughters. In his letter, Ahmad has stated that his son’s criminal links are coming in way of his daughters’ future.

According to Ahmad, people have stopped forwarding marriage proposals to his daughters, as they don’t want to be associated with a criminal’s family.
