Kolkata: Newly-appointed West Bengal state Congress chief Manas Bhuniya Tuesday supported the alliance with the Trinamool Congress, but said no one can “erase” his party from the state.

“I want to strengthen the organisational base of our party in the state. I also want to strengthen the alliance with the Trinamool Congress to fight against the atrocities of the CPI-M (Communist Party of India-Marxist),” Bhuniya told media persons, after formally taking over his new post.

The alliance between Congress and Trinamool Congress – clinching 26 Lok Sabha seats last year – got jeopardised during the recent civic elections after the two parties failed to clinch a seat sharing deal.

“If somebody thinks that Congress can be erased from the state then it’s a wrong perception. Even the atrocities and misrule of Left Front for last 33 years failed to finish us off. No force in the world can erase the Congress,” he said.

The Congress its still a deciding force in the state, he added.
