The FIFA Referees Committee retained Tuesday 19 of the 29 referee trios for the quarter-final stage, but both Uruguayan Larrionda and the Italian Rosetti were left out.

Larrionda officiated over England’s defeat to Germany and failed to spot Frank Lampard’s first-half shot which came off the underside of the crossbar and landed clearly beyond the goal-line.

Rosetti, who had refereed the final of Euro 2008, was in charge of the last-16 match between Argentina and Mexico, and allowed Carlos Tevez’s opening goal for Argentina to stand even though the Manchester City striker scored from an offside position.

Neither appeared at a FIFA open day for the media to meet the World Cup referees in Pretoria Tuesday.
