During February, domestic sales grew 46.1 percent to 31,001 units while exports rose 38.8 percent to 23,616 vehicles.

“The sales continue on a strong pitch as we have seen a lot of pre-ponement of buying because of the anticipated rise in excise duty in the union budget during the last two months,” said Arvind Saxena, director – Marketing and Sales.

“The two percent hike in excise duty which was subsequently levied might result in a correction in demand in the short run,” added Saxena.

The segment-wise cumulative sales for the month of February 2010 were: A2 Segment (Santro, i10, Getz and i20) 50,515 units; A3 Segment (Accent and Verna) 4,051 units; A5 Segment (Sonata Transform) 50 units; and SUV Segment (Tucson) 1 unit.
