Jammu: As many as more than four lakh educated youth in Jammu and Kashmir are unemployed and have registered themselves with various counseling centres in the state, officials said.
“There are 4,66,770 educated unemployed youth registered with various District Employment and Counseling Centres (DECC) in the state,” Labour and Employment department officials has said.
Out of these, the Kashmir division has registered 2,51,048 unemployed youth and Jammu division has 2,15,722, they said.
In Kashmir region, which is yet to recover from the clutches of militancy, the highest number of 44,741 unemployed youth was registered in Srinagar district followed by 41,385 in Jammu division’s Doda district, they said.
Leh has the lowest number of 559 unemployed youth registered with DECC, they said.
To address the issue of growing unemployment, the coalition government in the state has formulated Sher-e-Kashmir Employment and Welfare Programme for Youth.
