New Delhi: Several Muslim organizations have demanded immediate release of Maulana Tauqeer Raza Khan, President of All India Muslim Personal Law Board Jadid and Ittehad-e-Millat Council. Maulana Khan was arrested late Monday in Bareilly district of Uttar Pradesh in connection with the last week’s communal clashes there. Security was intensified in the district following his arrest.
Muslim Students Organization of India (MSO) and Barkaati Educational Trust (BET), in a common statement, have said that Maulana Tauqeer Raza Khan has been arrested on the basis of fake report filed on behalf of communal forces. The government must release him immediately as it may disrupt the peace of the city.
Advocate Shahnawaz Warsim, General Secretary of MSO and Maualana Hamid Raza Barkaati of BET said that “Maulana Raza Khan was helping in restoration of peace and was coordinating with administration in peace meetings. The Barelvi Sufi Movement and its leaders have always spread Peace and Communal Harmony in the Country and they are Messenger of Peace. His arrest is highly condemnable and he must be released without immediate delay otherwise crores of Muslims will be forced to protest on roads.”
They demanded the Central government to intervene and ensure release of the maulana. They also demanded immediate release of hundreds of innocent Muslim youths who have been arrested on fake charges.
