Ranjit, who dodged the local police for over one month before arrest, is lodged in Ambala jail. He was arrested from his house in Sector 16 in Chandigarh, around 10 km from here.

His lawyer is now planning to move the Punjab and Haryana High Court against this decision of district and sessions judge S.P. Singh.

“We will certainly move the Punjab and Haryana High Court against this dismissal. We have also filed an application in the Supreme Court to shift this case to some other state to ensure a fair trial as the complainant belongs to a high-profile family,” Rajan Malhotra, Ranjit’s lawyer, told IANS Wednesday.

Ranjit was booked Jan 30 for attempt to murder following a complaint from Gurmohan Singh Bedi, son of Punjab and Haryana High Court Judge M.M.S. Bedi.

Ranjit is the only son of retired bureaucrats B.R. Bajaj and Rupan Deol Bajaj.

According to the police, the two bodyguards of Ranjit, who were with him during his clash with Gurmohan, have also been arrested. The pistol with which Ranjit attempted to shoot Gurmohan is also in the police possession.
