Bathinda (Punjab): A raging fire destroyed pesticides worth lakhs of Rupees in a godown in a grain market in this Punjab town Tuesday, officials said.
“Pesticides were kept inside the godown and it was not feasible to douse the fire with water due to the presence of the highly inflammable contents. We also sought the help of the Air Force to control the flames,” Gurkirat Kirpal Singh, deputy commissioner of Bathinda, told IANS.
“An electrical short circuit could be the reason for the fire, but we are investigating the matter,” he added.
The owner of the godown told police he had lost raw material worth lakhs of rupees in the fire. Bathinda town is around 225 km from state capital Chandigarh.
