Strong Indian star cast for SAIL Open

New Delhi : A strong Indian contingent will try and stop world record holder Chapchai Nirat of Thailand from extending his lease over the SAIL Open 2010 golf next week.

The Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) along with Asian Tour and Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) Thursday announced a strong line-up for the event, now in its third year.

The SAIL Open this year will be held at the Delhi Golf Club March 30-April 2 and carry a total prize money purse of $300,000 and will boast of 156 world-class players from across the globe.

Gaurav Ghei and Himmat Singh Rai, representing two generations of Indian golf were present at the announcement.

Professional golfer Amandeep Singh Johl, speaking on behalf of SAIL said that a pro-am event was also scheduled for April 3. “SAIL extends a warm welcome to all the players in the tournament,” he said, adding that world tournament record holder Nirat from Thailand will defend his SAIL Open title.

Star players from India who will compete for the prestigious title include Jyoti Randhawa, Shiv Kapur, Gaganjeet Bhullar, Anirban Lahiri, Himmat Singh Rai, Gaurav Ghei, Muniyappa and S.S.P. Chowrasia.

Padamjit Sandhu, Director, PGTI said, “SAIL Open 2010 has reaffirmed the strength of commitment from SAIL for the growth of professional golf in India on a larger scale. I would like to thank SAIL for its continuing support to golf.”

Ghei said is looking forward to the tournament.

“I eagerly await the opportunity to play alongside the best professionals in Asia. SAIL Open will showcase the best of talent and the highest level of competition in the Asia. I am delighted to be a part of it.”
