Unnithan was suspended from the party after he was held with a woman, said to be a Congress Seva Dal worker, at a house in Malappuram district Dec 20 evening. The leader, however, insists he was trapped by ruling party activists and their allies.

“It was a trap that was laid by Communist Party of India-Marxist and the People’s Development Party (PDP) activists. The party inquiry has given me a clean chit. I was informed by state party president Ramesh Chennithala that I have been taken back into the party,” said Unnithan.

Police took Unnithan and the woman into custody and subjected them to medical tests. After being kept in the police station Dec 20 night, both were taken before the Manjeri first class judicial magistrate next day and given bail.

“Truth cannot be kept under the carpet for long. I am thankful to my party for their swift action and giving me a clean chit,” Unnithan said.
