Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in Delhi Wednesday and urged him to get the Maheshwar hydel power project cleared at the earliest, an official said here.
“Chouhan, who was accompanied by Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj and MPs from Madhya Pradesh including Sumitra Mahajan and Narendra Singh Tomar, met the prime minister and presented him a memorandum in this connection. Manmohan Singh assured clearance from the ministry of environment and forest (MoEF) for Maheshwar and other projects,” an official said.
Chouhan, according to the official, informed the prime minister that due to non-clearance by the MoEF, generation of 400 MW power in the state is being delayed.
The project was planned to generate 7.2 lakh units per day since November 2010, which will not be possible. The work of providing 36 crore litres of water daily to Dewas and Indore will also be affected. So far, Rs.3,000 crore have been spent on this project, the official informed.
Chouhan informed the PM that dam oustees are being rehabilitated on priority basis.
Manmohan Singh, the official informed, listened to the issues raised by Chouhan and Sushma Swaraj and assured them of an early solution to the problems.
