Cartridges of 9 mm, AK-47, .303 bore, .38 bore firearms are missing from the armouries of Kotwali and Sasnigate police stations in Aligarh, some 400 km from Lucknow.

The irregularities were detected during an inspection Thursday. A case was registered against two constables, Sajeevan Lal and Rampal, officials added.

Last week, the Uttar Pradesh police busted a racket involving CRPF personnel and policemen, who used to sell arms and ammunition from government armouries.

In all, six people – two CRPF troopers, three Uttar Pradesh police personnel and a retired sub inspector – were arrested on suspicion of supplying arms and ammunition to the Maoists.
