This fact came to light during interrogation of three head constables- Karan Sisodia, Kiran Chauhan and Kanji Kutchi-arrested by CID(crime) last night.

The three told CID(crime) investigating official R K Patel that Prajapti’s killing on December 28, 2006, on Gujarat-Rajasthan border in Banaskantha district was a fake one. This revelation may create more trouble for the arrested IPS officials including Vipul Agrawal and D G Vanzara. Agrawal as the then Superintendent of Police, Banaskantha district, had claimed that Prajapati was killed in a genuine encounter. Vanzara being border Range DIG was Agrawal’s boss.

The arrested head constables told investigators that the then police sub inspector Ashish Pandya took them in a patrolling van at Chhapri checkpost in Banaskantha district on Gujarat-Rajasthan border on December 28, 2006. Four jawans from the Rajasthan police also reached there. Pandya had some talks with them. Pandya is missing for the last one week.

After that Pandya told the head constables to look for a white Maruti 800 car. Soon , a white maruti car without a number plate reached there. Policemen stopped it. And three men came out of it and one of them was having his hands tied behind his back. He was Tulsiram Prajapati.

Prajapati was then taken near the police jeep. Pandya took out a countrymade revolver he was carrying with him and fired one round on the Maruti car. He then took out his service revolver and shot at Prajapati from a close range. Then two jawans from the Rajasthan police also fired at Prajapati from a close range.

After ensuring that Prajapati was dead, Pandya again loaded the countrymade gun and then fired on one of his arms inflicting injury on himself to prove that he was injured in a shootout.
But the police later on told media that Rajasthan police had brought Prajapati to Ahmedabad in connection with a court case. While returning back, associates of Prajapati attacked the police party and got him released. Gujarat police tracked him and at Chhapri and shot him dead when Prajapati opened fire on the police party.
