Islamabad : pakistan has strongly condemned the attempted terrorist attack at New York Times Square and said it will extend full cooperation to the United Stated in investigation.
Briefing the newsmen at his weekly news briefing in Islamabad Thursday, Foreign Office Spokesman Abdul Basit said Pakistan fully shares the indignation of the United States over the terror plot.
He said the international community should join ranks to root out the menace of terrorism.
To a question, the spokesman said Pakistan and the United States are already cooperating with each other to counter terrorism.
However, he did not give any details about any specific cooperation by Pakistan with reference to Times Square incident in which an American national of Pakistani origin Faisal Shahzad was arrested.
To a question about Pakistan’s reaction over sentence to lone survived attacker of Mumbai attacks Ajmal Kasab by Mumbai High Court, the spokesman said, “Our legal experts need to go through the detailed judgement.”
He said Pakistan has strongly condemned the horrific Mumbai attack.
He added that it is important that culprits are brought to justice.
To another question, he said the government has never asked for Ajmal Kasab’s extradition.
He said, “It was Court’s decision and we have proceeded according to that.”
Kasab was awarded death sentence and life term after he was found guilty of killing people.
Answering a question, Abdul Basit said it is incumbent upon the government to provide legal assistance to its nationals, but it has to draw a distinction as where assistance is required, legitimate and where it is not.
To a question, the Spokesman said Pakistan wants to resume the dialogue process with India as early as possible to take the peace process forward.
