New Delhi : The government Tuesday said it has asked states to launch an intensive village-level campaign to popularise Kisan Credit Cards (KCCs) among farmers.
The agriculture ministry said 90.6 million cards had been issued and credit of Rs.308,320 crore had been disbursed to farmers across the country till February this year.
This represented 95 percent of the target of Rs.325,000 crore set for 2009-10, the ministry said in a release here.
“The flow of agriculture credit since 2003-04 has consistently exceeded the target. It has increased from Rs.86,981 crore in 2003-04 to Rs.301,908 crore in 2008-09,” it said.
The ministry said the target of agriculture credit flow for 2010-11 is Rs.375,000 crore.
