New Delhi : Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and Delhi Police Friday appealed Delhiites to celebrate a clean and pollution-free Diwali.
In a message published in leading newspapers, Dikshit said: “Let the cracking good times continue without firecrackers.”
She called upon children to enjoy the festival of lights with diyas, rangoli, sweets and gifts instead of crackers.
“I am sure you do not want others and yourself to suffer. So, let’s convince our family members, friends and neighbours to join us and say no to crackers,” she added.
In another message, the police asked people not to burst fire-crackers between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. “Let us reduce noise and air pollution,” it said, adding that children should be accompanied by elders while lighting fire-crackers.
In the dos list, the police said: “Light fire-crackers if you must in open spaces. Wear cotton clothes. Remove inflammable materials and articles from rooftops. Keep doors and windows closed.”
