On the admission of the motion, leader of Opposition Prafulla Kukar Mahanta said the lower Subsansiri dam project will have adverse downstream impact on the state and demanded that it be closed.

Mahanta, two-time former chief minister, said an Assembly experts committee from as well as experts from the field were of the view that building of mega dams will adversely affect the people of the state.

AGP President Chandra Mohan Patowary alleged that the government had succumbed to a certain industrial lobby and allowed the Centre to sanction as many as 183 mega dams projects in that state.

Vowing to oppose the government the AGP President threatened a state-wide movement if the government went ahead with the mega dam projects.
