Kolkata: West Bengal’s ruling Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) has “paralysed” the central forces deployed in the Lalgarh area to fight the Maoist guerrillas, thus exposing the common man to violence, the state’s Congress unit head said Wednesday.
“CPI-M led Left Front government has paralyzed the central forces in the Lalgarh area. They could have been more active, but CPI-M is not allowing it. They are using the state police to terrorise the common people of the area,” Manas Bhunia said at a public rally in Lalgarh.
“We will not tolerate this thing. The people of Bengal will not tolerate this. We will protest against this,” he said.
Bhunia, however, stopped short of demanding the withdrawal of the security personnel.
“We will not comment on whether the central forces be withdrawn or kept in the area. It is a matter for the state and central governments to decide,” he said.
Paramilitary forces like the Central Reserve Police Force, along with state police, are conducting intense operations in and around Lalgarh to flush out the rebels.
