“The previous four vibrant Gujarat events were meant to attract investment for Gujarat. With Vibrant Gujarat 2011, we want investment to go to every Indian state,” Modi said, addressing Mumbai-based business groups and organisations, and seeking their participation in the Vibrant Gujarat 2011 Summit.

“Representative of any state can come here and sign MOUs (Memorandum of Understanding) with any global company,” he added.

Modi said the idea for the event was to invite captains of industry to the event, to be held Jan 10-11.

“I always say, ‘Gujarat’s growth, for India’s growth’,” Modi said.

“To make India emerge and grow, its states have to grow stronger. Gujarat is a perfect example of that with double-digit growth rate even during recession and monopoly in various industries across the spectrum,” he added.

Modi said that despite having only six percent of the national population and six percent of its land mass, Gujarat manages 22 percent of the India’s export.

Speaking on the occasion, Modi said: “Mumbai and Gujarat share a lot of similar traits apart from just being western states. Most of the Mumbai-based companies today operate in Gujarat while Gujaratis have had remarkable success in the financial capital of the country with their entrepreneurial skills and business acumen.”

The chief minister was extended a warm welcome by over 700 industrialists from different sectors ranging from financial services to textiles and from energy to the retail sector.
