Chandigarh : With growing public resentment against the severe shortage of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) across Punjab with the onset of winter, public sector gas companies Friday assured the state government that the supply will be normalised within a week.
Senior officers of the Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Gas and Hindustan Petroleum Friday assured Food and Civil Supplies Minister Adesh Partap Singh Kairon of uninterrupted supply of cooking gas to consumers in Punjab within a week.
Kairon had specially convened the meeting of officials of these gas companies in order to check the ongoing shortage of gas cylinders in the state.
Explaining the situation of shortage of LPG, IOC general manager R.K. Arora said that the shortage was due to the closure of the IOC plant at Panipat recently for repair and upgradation.
He said the IOC (Indane) plants at Jalandhar and Nabha in Punjab were now working in two shifts a day to clear the backlog. Both plants get their supply from the gas pipeline coming from Panipat.
Arora said the backlog of supply of LPG cylinders would be cleared within one week.
