Police erected barricades around the Hotel Berlin where the event is scheduled to be held with left-wing groups – under the banner of ‘Send Geert Wilders Home’ having announced a counter protest.

According to witnesses, there has been a massive police presence in front of the hotel.

The venue and time of Wilders speech Berlin had been shrouded in secrecy because of alleged security concerns.

The controversial Dutch leader of Party for Freedom (PVV) is in Berlin following an invitation by a German Islamophobic politician Rene Stadtkewitz who has formed the anti-Islam Die Freiheit (Freedom Party).

Wilders who had been the power broker of a new right-wing Dutch government, is to face trial next week in Amsterdam for inciting and insulting Muslims.
