New Delhi: Social activist and former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Kiran Bedi has slammed the country’s top leaders for failing to inspire the youth to sports and not thanking the workers for their “stupendous” effort on the opening day of the 2010 Commonwealth Games.

“No speech inspired energy or fired passion for sports amongst youth! And no one thanked the workers for the stupendous visible effort!” Bedi wrote on microblogging site Twitter Monday.

The retired super cop also questioned as to why Prime Minister Manmohan Singh did not recognise the “stupendous effort” in preparations for the mega sporting event that kicked off Sunday in a glittering function at the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium.

“Preparations for last seven years ought to have received standing ovation. Even PM in his opening speech did not recognise the stupendous effort. Why?,” she wrote on the wall.

The spectacular show at the Commonwealth Games inaugural ceremony dazzled the West and Indian media.
