Three Maoists arrested in Bankura

Kolkata : Three Maoists were arrested Tuesday in West Bengal’s Bankura district, police said.

Acting on a tip off, the joint security forces conducted a raid in Baro (12) Mile forest in Ranibandh police station area and arrested the trio, Bankura Police Superintendent Pranav Kumar said.

“Among the three arrested, Basanta Murmu and Sibuprasad Kisku were squad members and Kamol Murmu was a linkman. All were resident of Ranibandh area,” he said.

“Both Basanta and Sibuprasad were wanted in at least four cases including the murder of a civil contractor Khogen Mahato some three months back,” said the police chief.

All the three would be produced before the local court Wednesday, said Kumar.

Maoists are active in three western districts of the state – West Midnapore, Bankura and Purulia.
