Snags in CWG website upset media persons

New Delhi : The facilities at the Main Press Centre might be otherwise perfect but the slow website of the 2010 Commonwealth Games is turning out to be an irritant for media persons, who complain it is slow and takes far too long to provide updates.

“The official website is slow for updates. There is an inordinate delay, with errors in results too,” a senior sports journalist told IANS.

“It is difficult to depend on the official site as it is inaccessible at times,” the journalist added.

The website displays results of the matches, medals tally, news on other nations’ performance and merchandise selling sections for people.

“The speed is slow because of traffic. The traffic has been tripling everyday,” said Harsh Kumar from the communications wing of the CWG Organising Committee.

According to the organising committee, the website had nearly 500,000-odd visitors till Oct 1, and this was expected to have tripled by now.

“Foreign news websites and sports news portals have the latest results and updates on the Games. I prefer to depend on them rather than the official website,” said Gourav Girotra, a sports enthusiast.

At 12 noon Friday, when India had won 16 gold medals, the medals tally on the website showed only 15 medals.
