Kolkata: “Urdu will be given the status of state’s second language if Congress comes to power,” said Pradip Bhattacharya, a senior leader of Congress and former working president of Party’s West Bengal Unit.
He was speaking at the release function of monthly Tarjumanul Haq in city’s Muslim Institute on Saturday evening.

When asked it is your personal concern or party’s mandate, he clarified saying “It is the decision of our party and I am just repeating it here.”
According to Shamim Ahmed, who is leading the movement to make Urdu second official language of the State and editor of the monthly released, the major reason to start the same is to give a voice to voiceless.
The monthly will be focused on the human rights issues and violations in West Bengal, which he thinks the state is notorious for.
