Kochi: The Kerala High Court Monday said the State Election Commission (SEC) has no authority to impose ban on the use of flex boards in the campaign to the Oct 23 and 25 local bodies polls.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice J. Chelameswar announced the verdict. State Election Commissioner P. Kamalkutty had earlier ruled that flex boards should not be used as these would create environmental problems.
Following this, a group of flex board manufacturers approached the high court.
The Flex Printing Owners’ Association of Kerala said: “Contrary to popular belief, flex is not made of plastic. The basic material used in flex is cloth and calcium powder.”
With more than 70,000 candidates in the fray for the polls, the flex manufacturers have breathed a sigh of relief following the court verdict.
