“Each run that Sachin now takes notches a new record. It is a matter of honour for Indian cricket and pride for the entire state,” Chavan said in a message.

Sachin hit his 49th Test century and the sixth double-century of his career, notching up 3,000-plus runs against Australia in Tests. He also became the only batsman to cross the 14,000-run mark in Tests.

“Sachin has been adjudged Man of the Match on 73 occasions, and Man of the Series 18 times. We hope he continues to create more such records,” Chavan said.

India Wednesday beat Australia by seven wickets in the second and final Test to sweep the series 2-0 to win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
