Mumbai: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Nitin Gadkari Thursday reiterated the party’s stand that the “money-power politics” of the Congress and Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) in Karnataka had led to destabilisation of the B.S. Yeddyurappa government.
Taking part in a web-chat soon after Yeddyurappa won the vote of confidence in the Karnataka assembly, Gadkari blamed both the Congress and JD-S for the recent political crisis in that state.
“It was the ‘money power’ of the two opposition parties that contributed to the destabilisation of the Yeddyurappa government. This kind of politics was started by the Congress party,” Gadkari asserted.
He admitted that every legislator wants to become a minister but not everybody can become one. “I assure you that the Karnataka government is a popular government, we are committed to give a good, corruption-free administration,” he said.
When asked about the “so called Rahul charisma” in the ensuing Bihar assembly elections, Gadkari was dismissive.
“There is no ‘Rahul charisma.’ The Congress is a proprietory concern whereas the BJP is a democratic party. Rahul Gandhi will have to go through the Bihar litmus test…” he said.
To a query whether the party would harp on the recent Ayodhya verdict, Gadkari said that the party would not politicize the verdict – “It (Ayodhya) is not a political subject, it is a national issue.”
Referring to the party’s stand on the corruption issues which haunted the Commonwealth Games which concluded Thursday, Gadkari said: “In the country’s interest, we decided not to make any comments till the Games are over. We will take a stand after that.”
