Meeting on sleep-related disorders to be held in Indian state of Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, India : The capital of the southern Indian state of Kerala is gearing to host a national workshop on sleep disorder in December which is expected to draw a number of international experts and researchers, Press Trust of India (PTI) reported.

A large number of globally acclaimed sleep therapists from various countries, including US and Japan, are expected to attend the meet scheduled to be held here on December 11 and 12, organisers said.

The two-day event titled, “National Sleep Medicine Course”(NSMC-2010), will bring national and international researchers and clinicians on a single platform and explore solutions for various sleep related issues, they explained.

“Sleep disorder problems pose a great threat to people worldwide. Many diagnosed and undiagnosed sleep-related complaints not only cause misery to the sufferer, they also have socio-economic consequences,” said Kamalesh K Gulia, the organising secretary of the event, adding that the workshop will also cover various aspects of speech disorders.

A large number of neurologists, pulmonologists, general practitioners, healthcare professionals, sleep technicians and sleep scientists will attend class room lectures and hands-on-workshops during the event.

The meet will also explore the possibility training professionals from various fields on sleep-related medical care.

The Indian Society for Sleep Research (ISSR) and Kerala based Sree Chitra Institute for Medical Science and Technology will also take part in the event, organisers said.
