Gaza : Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said late Thursday that Palestinians should not seek to impose international pressure on Israel to push for Mideast peace.
In a statement to Israeli media, Netanyahu said direct peace talks was the only mean to achieve true peace in the region, hoping that such direction would resume soon.
Netanyahu’s statement came to counter Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’s statement in regards to the peace process where he noted that Palestinians might call on the UN and US to recognize an independent Palestinian state within the 1967-border if talks with Israel did not resume.
The Palestinian leader noted that such an option would not be pursued till attempts to pressure Israel to end settlement-building were not of use.
