Bypoll for Bhatgaon assembly seat Oct 1: EC

New Delhi : The Election Commission Friday announced by-election to the Bhatgaon assembly seat in Chhattisgarh’s Surguja district on Oct 1.

Polls are being held following the death of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ravi Shankar Tripathi in a car accident in April this year.

While the notification will be issued Sep 6, the last date of nominations is Sep 13. The last date of withdrawal of candidature is Sep 16.

Counting will be on Oct 4, the poll panel said.

“The commission has decided to use EVMs (Electronic Voting Machines) in this by-election in all the polling stations. Adequate number of EVMs has been made available and all steps have been taken to ensure that the poll is conducted smoothly with the help of these machines,” a statement issued here said.

Also, the model code of conduct has come into force with immediate effect in the area with the announcement of the poll date, the commission added.
