The march, called ‘Thackeray Jodo Campaign’ in which hundreds took part, was organised by a senior Shiv Sena leader from Worli Satish Walunj.

The workers paid homage at the statue of Meenatai Thackeray, wife of Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray, before undertaking the march.

They walked from Krishna Kunj, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray’s residence in Dadar west to Matoshree, Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray’s residence in Bandra east.

However, the Shiv Sena dismissed the effort as an attempt to confuse the people and said that the party has been fighting the cause of the Marathis for the past over four decades.

When contacted, a senior MNS office-bearer told IANS that the party was not aware of any “so-called unity move undertaken by any self-proclaimed leader in the city”.

“We are not aware of the reasons behind this so-called unity effort, the motives of the organisers or the need for such a thing in the first place,” he added.
