On the eve of Eid, Ganpati, Mumbai put on high security alert

Mumbai: On the eve of festivals, Eid-ul-Fitr and Ganpati, Mumbai Police Commissioner, Sanjiv Dayal in a press conference on Tuesday asked Mumbaikers to be very alert and report about every suspicious person or activities. He appealed to Muslims and Hindus to celebrate their festivals together and co-operate with the Police for better security.

The Police Commissioner specifically requested Ganpati Mandals not to portray any jhankis (floats) that hurts the sentiments of other communities and maintain discipline at the time of congregation.



He also appealed to Muslims to be co-operative and celebrate Eid with peace, harmony and facilitate the congregation of Ganpati.

Mumbai police has also called up additional forces and issued the directive to the local police stations to meet Hindus and Muslims leaders and maintain peace at any cost.

Intelligence agencies have sounded red alert on Monday and said that the terrorist forces from neighboring country can disrupt and attack on some sensitive places to terrorize Mumbaikars.

Answering a question specifically on Minara Masjid, where thousands of people visit every day and night, and Lal Baug Ka Raja, the most famous Ganpati of Mumbai, the Commissioner said they don’t have any specific report but yes they have visited Lal Baug and advised them on the security measures.

A newspaper in Mumbai has reported that on the Intelligence Bureau tip of threat to Minara Masjid, plain-clothed policemen and women patrol the area day and night under cover. The police men are in Pathanis and the women in Burqa.
Beefed up security can be seen in Mandirs , Masjid and some sensitive points in Mumbai.
