Nationwide prayer organized to counter Babri verdict fallout

New Delhi: A nation wide Prayer for peace and communal harmony was organized under the banner of National Alliance for People’s Movement (NAPM) on 16th September. It was a part of peace campaign to counter the build up of communal passion by the fundamentalist organizations ahead of the verdict in Babri mosque- Ram Janm Bhoomi title suit on 24th September.

Talking to TwoCircles.net, Faisal Khan of NAPM pointed out that, “besides Delhi, peace prayers were also organized in Sirsa (Haryana), Muktsar (Punjab), Lucknow (UP) Sholapur (Maharashtra), Kheda (Gujarat), Ratlam ( Madhya Pradesh), Karim Ganj (Assam), Bhagalpur (Bihar) and Katak (Orissa) among many other places across the country.”

It will also be organized in Patna on 23rd September, Mr. Khan further informed.

One such Peace prayer was also organized in Okhla, New Delhi. It was participated by faculty members and students of Jamia Millia Islamia, social activists and local residents of the area.

Almost every attendant of the prayer spoke on this occasion. Appeal to the countrymen for peace and communal harmony was common to every body’s speech.

Speaking on the occasion, VK Tripathi, a prominent social activist said, “More important than a mosque and a temple, is humanity which unites every one of us together.”

Mr. Tripathi, who is also a faculty of IIT Delhi, further appealed to every Indian that, “whatever may be the outcome of the Babri verdict, we have to maintain harmony and prove that the Ganga-Jamuni Tahzeeb can withstand the ravages of time and verdicts.”

Faisal Khan highlighted the evil designs of the communal forces in the country to misuse the verdict to disturb religious harmony. He also alerted every body not to fall into the traps of the fundamentalist forces.

In this initiative were NAPM was supported by Asha Pariwar, Sadbhav Mission, Journalist Union for Civil Liberties, Yuva Koshish, Haidari Foundation and others.
