She is among the six legislators to be inducted in the first major shake up of Bharatiya Janata Party’s first ministry in Karnataka and south India which took office in May 2008.

The others are V. Somanna, C.H. Vijayashankar, A. Ramdas, A. Narayanaswamy and C.C. Patil.

Shobha Karandlage, a confidante of Yeddyurappa, was forced to resign as part of the compromise formula to please the powerful mine owners and ministers, the Reddy brothers who had revolted against the chief minister in October-November last year.

She was targeted on the ground that she was interfering in the functioning of other ministers because of her perceived proximity to Yeddyurappa.

Yeddyurappa had sobbed in front of TV cameras for accepting to drop her and also shunt out trusted officers as part of the compromise.

The cabinet shuffle will take place against the backdrop of unprecedented public show of dissidence in the BJP, which prides itself as a disciplined party.

The names of the six to join the ministry were finalised late Tuesday after Yeddyurappa dropped three ministers. There were already three vacancies in the 34-strong ministry.
