Kozhikode: Precautionary measures are in force in Kerala to avoid any unfavourable happenings in the wake of the court verdict on the Babri Masjid – Ram Janmabhumi title suit. Prohibitory orders have been clamped in several places.
District Collector Sanjay Kaul clamped prohibitory orders in Thiruvananthapuram for three days from today. The order was made as per the report of the Police Commissioner and SP. Five or more persons should not gather together or hold demonstrations on these days. Any individual or organisation planning to hold any programme should obtain prior permission from the police authorities. There are restrictions on the use of loudspeakers also.
Prohibitory orders have been clamped in Ernakulam district from today to 28th. Kottayam will be under prohibitory orders tomorrow and day after. Demonstrations and marches have been prohibited in Alappuzha district on 24th and 25th September. Meetings on religious or communal basis have been prohibited in Idukki for tomorrow and day after. The ban on carrying arms and holding public meetings in Kozhikode district will be in effect from today to the midnight of September 25.
Police Act will be in force in the state’s northernmost district of Kasargode, which lies near to Mangalore, from tomorrow for a week. The District Collector took the decision after a high-level meeting with the police authorities in the district. The Kannur District Collector clamped prohibitory orders in the district for two days beginning from tomorrow morning. Functions such as marriages should be held only with the permission of the SP. A meeting of religious leaders was also held at the Collectorate in which all extended support and cooperation to the district authorities to maintain peace and harmony.
