Madurai : Union Chemicals and Fertilisers Minister M.K. Alagiri says he wants to return to Tamil Nadu politics but insists that no one other than his father M. Karunanidhi can head a DMK government.
But Alagiri, a strongman of the ruling DMK in southern districts of the state, shied away from talking of succession in the party while talking to NDTV.
“I love the people of Tamil Nadu very much, and that is why I want to be part of Tamil Nadu politics… That is the reason I don’t like Delhi politics,” Alagiri said while campaigning for the April 13 assembly polls.
Will his brother and Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin be the chief minister if Karunanidhi steps down? “No, no… only Kalaignar (Karunanidhi) will be chief minister. There is no doubt about that.”
Asked if it would be fine with him if Stalin succeeded Karunanidhi, Alagiri was emphatic in saying that his father would be the chief minister now and in the future.
“As for present and for the future, Kalaignar will be the chief minister, there is no doubt about that,” he said.
