Dalai Lama asks Irish to work hard to strengthen economy

London : Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama has asked the people of Ireland to work harder if they are to overcome the financial crisis gripping their country.

The Dalai Lama is on his first trip to Ireland in 20 years.

Speaking about the country’s crippling economic situation, he said: “Work hard, make effort with determination, prosperity will come.”

“Now you must work hard, with self-confidence and more cooperation,” the 76-year-old leader was quoted as saying by Sky News.

The event was organised through the Children in Crossfire charity.

The Dalai Lama is later expected to attend events in Kildare and Limerick.

The Tibetan leader has announced plans to retire. His successor would be chosen May 20.
