Beijing : China’s Shenzhen has evicted about 80,000 “potentially unstable people” ahead of an international sports competition, an official said.
Shen Shaobao, a senior official, said: “People living in Shenzhen without proper identity, justifiable reasons and those acting suspiciously, posing a threat to people and the social security are what we called unstable residents.”
China Daily quoted the Shenzhen Economic Daily as reporting that eight groups of people are in the high-alert category.
Since the beginning of this year, police have also evicted beggars, mentally ill people who pose a danger to others, and unregistered residents.
The sports event, 26th Summer Universiade, begins August 12.
