Karachi : Indian and Pakistani nationals lodged in either country’s jails, most of whom are fishermen, should be released on humanitarian grounds, said Sindh Governor Ishratul Ebad Khan.
Khan Monday said the prisoners should be released on humanitarian ground while considering their cases on reciprocal basis, the Daily Times reported.
He made the remark during an interaction with a delegation of human rights activists from India and Pakistan.
The Pakistani delegation was led by Justice (retd) Nasir Aslam Zahid and a 12-member delegation from India was led by Najendar Roy.
Khan said the government was making efforts to facilitate release of innocent prisoners.
“It is our effort to resolve the problem on top priority basis…Most of them are fishermen,” the governor was quoted as saying.
