New Delhi : Germany has given Rs.10 lakh as a grant for basic education of the girl child in Haryana’s Mewat district.
German Ambassador Thomas Matussek and director of the Adi Gram Samiti (AGS) Vinod Kumar Kanathia signed the agreement to contribute the money towards providing elementary education to girls in Haryana’s Mewat district, according to the German embassy statement Wednesday.
With this project, AGS is expected to impart pre-primary education to 300 girl students of the marginalised Muslim community in Mewat.
The NGO claims to have been working in the field of development, poverty alleviation, gender and other social issues in India since 1993.
It has a special focus on education, health awareness and vocational training.
The money for the project would be utilised for buying teaching aids and learning materials, uniforms and books for the students.
Female literacy rate among Muslim women in Mewat is less than 15 percent.
