Nalhati (West Bengal) : Congress president and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi Wednesday said the Maoist movement poses a grave threat to internal security and the central government is helping insurgency hit states in tackling the menace.
“Naxalite (Maoist) movement is a serious threat to the internal security of the country. The central government is trying to solve the problem. The government in every way is helping the states hit by Maoists insurgency,” Gandhi said at an election meeting in Nalhati of Birbhum district of West Bengal.
She said the central government has taken up special projects to remove the backwardness of insurgency affected areas.
The second phase of West Bengal’s assembly elections will be held April 23.
