“I am a Left minded person and I feel and I am sure that there can be no better alternative than the Left Front. This force (Trinamool Congress-Congress alliance) is a danger for democracy. I am an old man but I still remember the black days of the seventies when democracy was buried under the hatchet,” said Chatterjee while campaigning for Gautam Deb, CPI-M candidate in the Dum Dum assembly constituency.

“If somebody says that nothing has happened in last 34 years under the leadership of Left Front then it is an insult to the people of Bengal, who elected it for seven consecutive terms,” said an emotional Chatterjee who received a huge round of applause as he started delivering his speech.

Chatterjee also took a dig at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who had criticised the Left Front government for the poor functioning of the state.

“They have instigated the prime minister to criticise the state government. He has been given wrong information. The note he was reading out had wrong information given by them,” said Chatterjee, who was expelled from the CPI-M three years ago when he refused to step down ahead of a trust vote in parliament.

“If this messy alliance led by Trinamool is voted to power then it will create anarchy in the state,” said Chatterjee

Chatterjee also criticised the “non-cooperation” policy of the Trinamool Congrees.

“A central minister is not willing to talk with state government. This is not right. That means a chief minister will not talk with the prime minister if both come from different parties. This is against the constitution,” said Chatterjee.
