“I think Election Commission should be more active. Bengal is more sensitive than other states. The CPI-M does its mischief in the sensitive and border areas,” Banerjee told a Bengali television channel.

Asked whether she was satisfied with the poll panel’s work, she said: “There are three Election Commissioners in Delhi. But they have to depend mostly on the state government’s set up. It would have been good if they had their own elaboroate set up.”

Banerjee is the main opposition leader and the chief ministerial candidate of the Trinamool Congress-Congress alliance in West Bengal, where the assembly polls are being held April 18-May 10. The results will be declared May 13.

The ruling Left Front is facing the stiffest challenge of its 34-year rule from the opposition combine.
