By IANS,

Beijing: Those seeking to obtain a driving licence in China will soon have to fill up a form that asks whether they will be organ donors in case of a fatal accident, a media report said Monday.

Huang Jiefu, vice-minister of health, said the plan was being considered due to a severe organ-donation shortage in China, China Daily reported.

Statistics show that just 10,000 out of 1.5 million patients receive the organ they need.

“The gap is huge, and severe,” Chongqing Evening News quoted Huang as saying.

The new policy will be implemented by the end of the year.

Under it, driving licence applicants will be asked to fill out the form that states whether or not they would like to donate their organ after a fatal accident.

If they answer ‘Yes’, then they are asked which organs they wish to donate.
