Thief who got on Shanghai metro train roof held

Shanghai : A Chinese man who stole from passengers in the Shanghai Metro tried to flee by climbing on to the train roof Tuesday morning, halting train operations that left thousands of passengers stranded.

The incident took place at around 8.45 a.m. at Lujiazui station, Shanghai Daily reported citing metro officials.

The thief was found stealing in the train. He escaped and then climbed on to a train’s roof, forcing it to stop.

Metro staff cut the power in the tunnel and alerted police who soon caught the thief.

Thousands of passengers were stranded in stations along that particular metro line. Train operations resumed an hour later, police said.

The man had stolen a wallet with cash and credit cards in it, they said.
