Aligarh: Accepting the demand of Aligarh Muslim University Students Union, Vice Chancellor P.K. Abdul Azis has constituted a high-level committee for drafting the rules and regulations to check sexual harassment of women and girls at the university campus.
As soon as AMU Students Union was elected in January this year, the students body dispatched a letter to the VC demanding him to establish a permanent Women Cell and to implement the rules and regulations to check sexual harassment of girls and girls like the ones implemented by Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.
The issue of sexual harassment was sensationalized after the disclosure of the reply to an RTI application filed by RTI activist Shahzad Alam, in which it was found that there were 30 cases of women harassment against the employees of the varsity but no action was taken against any one.
However, hope sparked for action against guilty after VC ordered to constitute the panel to draft required rules and regulations.
