Joshi in PAC was doing his party’s bidding: Congress

By IANS,

New Delhi : The Congress Friday accused Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairperson Murli Manohar Joshi of “doing his party’s bidding” in finalising the draft report on the 2G spectrum issue and said the panel had been converted into a “BJP-Left forum”.

“The BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) and the Left are displaying blatant opportunism, collusion and complicity in destabilising secular forces like the Congress and United Progressive Alliance,” Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said here.

Singhvi said the BJP and the Left had joined hands in the PAC and termed Joshi as the “BJP chairman of the PAC”.

“The PAC has been converted into a BJP-Left party forum instead of a joint parliamentary committee. The unholy haste shown by the BJP chairman in doing his party’s bidding before April 30 is actively supported by the Left,” he said.

Singhvi said that a biased report was sought to be rammed down the throat of PAC members.

“All norms of discussion and debate are thrown to the wind and a hurriedly authored and biased report is sought to be rammed down the throats of the PAC members within 24 hours with the active connivance and unconditional support of the Left,” he said.

Singhvi also claimed the “BJP has decided to fully support the Left in the Bengal elections to repay the debt of support received in the PAC”.

In an unseemly turn of events Thursday, of the 21-member PAC, 11 members from the Congress, DMK, Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party rejected the interim report on the 2G scam even as Joshi had adjourned the proceedings following deep divisions among members over the draft.
