New Delhi : The Supreme Court Monday asked a petitioner to move the Allahabad High Court on his demand for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the holding of kangaroo court by an Uttar Pradesh Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) legislator to decide criminal and civil disputes.
Chandpur legislator Mohammad Iqbal holds court every Sunday at Chandpur Tehsil in Bijnor district and, besides deciding criminal and civil disputes, imposes penalties, petitioner Sher Baz Khan said.
Khan was asked by the apex court bench of Chief Justice S.H. Kapadia, Justice K.S. Panicker Radhakrishnan and Justice Swatanter Kumar to approach the high court after his petition was dismissed as withdrawn.
Khan is the elected president of Chandpur Nagar Palika Parishad.
The petition said that Iqbal had been holding the kangaroo court for the last three years.
The petition alleged that Iqbal decided cases after taking Rs.500 each as fee from both the parties. He also decided criminal offences like murder, dacoity, rape and dowry.
The petitioner also sought an investigation by the district administration and police for filing of false cases against him for exposing Iqbal.
