Ahmedabad : Social activist Teesta Setalvad of the Citizens for Justice and Peace was Tuesday granted anticipatory bail by a court here in a criminal case filed against her by a former aide Rais Khan, a lawyer said.
Additional Sessions Judge S.B. Gajera granted her plea for anticipatory bail with the condition that in the eventuality of facing arrest she may deposit Rs.25,000 and avail the bail, said S.M. Vohra, her lawyer.
Setalvad filed the application over Khan’s allegation that she had fabricated evidence in connection with the 2002 Gujarat riots.
A judge hearing a riots case had ordered that a first information report (FIR) be lodged against Khan “and his associates”, for allegedly manipulating some affidavits filed before the court.
Khan alleged that he assisted witnesses prepare affidavits at the behest of Setalvad. He was an employee of the NGO till January 2008.
